1. Dead Week
Last week, I mentioned that I had fully embraced Dead Week and didn’t have my weekly thoughts to share. For those who didn’t look this up, I’ll explain. Dead Week is the period between Christmas and New Year, that odd week where no one knows quite what they should be doing. This was a new phrase to me, yet it seemed so familiar. Helena Fitzgerald does a great job of explaining Dead Week here.
2. Baggage, letting go
We all have baggage that we carry around with us, emotional, work or family etc. Everybody’s baggage is different and will change throughout their lives. After Dead Week, I’ve managed to let go of a lot of the heavy baggage I’ve been carrying, especially from the last few months, and it feels good.
3. Refilling my lake of resilience
A lake with the ability to maintain its state in the face of both internal change and external shocks and disturbances is said to be resilient (Carpenter and Cottingham 1997). While this is an ecological term, it can be adapted metaphorically to individuals. Imagine that you are sitting in a boat on your lake (of resilience), which needs to be constantly topped up to prevent your boat from hitting the rocks below the surface. While each of our lakes will have different depths, your boat becomes beached or broken up on the rocks if your lake runs dry. Thankfully I’m feeling my lake starting to refill, thanks in part to all this letting go, and it feels good.
4. Feeling Good
In the words of Nina Simone… It’s a new dawn, It’s a new day, It’s a new life for me, yeah, It’s a new dawn, It’s a new day, It’s a new life for me, ooh, And I’m feeling good.
As I look for my next role, I’m excited about all the new opportunities and adventures that may lie ahead. I’m interested in speaking with individuals and companies with inspiring missions and exciting problems to solve. If you know of anyone, feel free to reach out, I’m always up for a coffee and a chat to get a feel for where I may want to focus my attention in the near future.
