Using photography as a tool for health
I always carry a camera and often use photography as an excuse to get out. I’ve previously written about how a camera has helped my mental health. It can be a key to unlocking conversations with strangers and a shield to hide behind when I want to melt into the background.
In December, I found myself with a lot of free time, and I spent some of that out and about exploring. Getting outside is good for us, but sometimes it’s easier to sit indoors and let the days pass by. This is where I lean on my interest in photography and use that as the trigger that gets me out the door. I want to improve my ability to capture images, and I can only do that if I take them. I capture images every week, not snap-shots, but images that are hopefully a little more considered. Sometimes they’re successful, sometimes not.
Enjoying the process
I think I enjoy the process of photography more than the results, as I can often return from a mini adventure and not even look at the images I’ve captured for a few days. This is highlighted by my sharing this small selection of images I shot in December, in January.
