On my mind this week, 10 October 22

Five things that I've been thinking about this week.

1. Photography

I’ve been engaging more on Twitter around photography and discovered Guy Dickinson. This particular image drew me in, it’s beautiful, it’s messy and made me want to know more, perfect.

2. Long walks

Spending time outside is good for the mind, body and soul. I love cycling, especially through woodland, but also on foot too. A very good friend and I walked section two of the London Loop. A 7.5-mile walk from Old Bexley to Petts Wood. It really helped me clear my head. I would strongly suggest a good walk as a break not just from the screen but from everything else too.

3. Everything’s a gift

Last year I attended the brilliant Everyday Improviser course created and run by the insightful Robert Poynton and Gary Hirsch. This pair are entertaining and educational in equal measure, they taught me how to improvise, to use what is presented, and that everything is a gift. This week I’ve had some shocking but not surprising news. The techniques I learnt in this course helped me see bad news as a gift. Instead of getting stressed or anxious, I spotted the opportunities, the gifts.

4. Starting a podcast

I haven’t, and I probably never will, but if I did, then this list of 20 lessons for new podcasters from Jay Clouse would be my starting point.

5. Skate Culture

Following a thread on Twitter led me to discover photographer Wesley Verhoeve and his Process newsletter. Especially his Documenting Skate Culture in Mexico City story.
