A Farewell to FutureLearn

Along with many others, this has been my last day at FutureLearn. I sent the message below internally, but there are so many brilliant people who have previously worked at FutureLearn that I want them to know what they've meant to me.
Today was my last day at FutureLearn.
I started here nine years, five months ago.
That’s a long time at one company.
I’ve loved working here.
I’ve appreciated working on a product that delivers value to its users.
But what I value most is you.
All of you, and that includes those that have already left.
While interviewing candidates, I was often asked, ‘what keeps you here?’
My answer has always been the same, the people.
Because of all of you,
I’ve learnt so much
I had lots of fun.
I felt supported.
I felt like I belonged.
I’ve never worked with such an intelligent group of individuals.
I’ve never been prouder of the work produced.
That’s a lot of I’s, but it’s not about me; it’s about us.
Remember that together we made a difference in many people’s lives.
For that, I am thankful.
The responses of our learners always humble me.
I know we were doing the right thing.
I know it will continue.
For those of you staying, please keep doing what you do best, championing our users. You will succeed in transforming access to education.
For those of you moving on, I wish you all the best on whatever adventure awaits. You will find a new path, and it will be a good one.
Let’s all look at our achievements with pride and remember the good times.
All of you, and Futurelearn, will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thank you, all of you.

Judging books by their covers… January 2025

It’s been a while since I compiled a selection of publication covers that caught my eye. Now that we’re into 2025, I feel that it might be a good time to restart the habit. My love for cover designs goes back to my college days and years in publishing. I haven’t designed a commercial publication cover for quite a while, and I’d like to change that this year.
