The Daily Stoic

Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman

It’s the last day of the year and the second time I’ve finished this book. Let me explain. This is written as daily meditations on wisdom and designed to be read daily. I started this book in October last year, but I felt I had to start on the correct date. This means I’ve read the last three months’ meditations twice. Not a bad thing, though.

The book is co-authored by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. The authors take the reader through a rewarding series of stoic philosophical insights. Each day, as a reader, you’re presented with a Stoic lesson, explained in modern language, with advice about how to apply it in everyday life.

The meditations are full of practical wisdom to help you focus on what’s in your control and what isn’t. The Daily Stoic delivers guidance on eliminating false and limiting beliefs. The book provides more of an exercise guide than a history of Stoicism—for a deeper insight, may I suggest A Guide to the Good Life.
