Quiet is my first read of 2024, although I did start the book in November ’23. The author, Susan Cain, is an introvert in a world that, she argues, excessively and misguidedly respects extroverts. Throughout the book, Cain explores the differences, similarities and overlaps through research and evidence. While I found some chapters a little academic, the examples are brilliant and easy to follow.
It’s later in the book when talking about education and how to nurture more introverted individuals, that really excited me. Cain goes on to explain how school classrooms, and curriculums, are increasingly designed to favour the dominant extrovert mind. The last few chapters are amazing and full of useful, notable excepts.
