The Courage to Be Happy: True Contentment Is Within Your Power

Ichiro Kishimi, Fumitake Koga

Following on from The Courage to Be Disliked, which I enjoyed, I jumped straight into this follow-up. This book continues in the same style as the previous one, following a conversation between the same philosopher and youth—albeit a few years later.

This is not a self-help book in the standard of the genre but is very enlightening on a philosophical level. The first book set out the broad themes of Adlerian psychology. This book takes some of those themes further in terms of childrearing, education and ultimately love. Though the conversations become quite complex and deep at times, everything comes together and ties in nicely with the topics covered in The Courage to Be Disliked too. I’d highly recommend both books and while it’s not necessary to read them in order, I think you will get more from them if you do.
