Diving into this dystopian classic, I had high hopes of being entertained and challenged. I was right on the second point, as I found this hard to read. Putting my dyslexia to one side, I found the text and flow challenging. I know we shouldn’t fight through books we don’t enjoy, to spend time with those we do, but as I decided to finish a chapter before putting it down, the story took a twist. I felt I needed to carry on and give the book more of a chance. After all, it’s a classic and revered by many.
After finishing it, I can’t say it’s a book I’d recommend. While it’s interesting to understand a speculative future, seen from the early 1930s, this book is not on par with George Orwell’s 1984. However, there is an interesting point in the book where the author delivers multiple story threads simultaneously. This is an interesting way of writing; for that alone, it may be worth a read.
