Having discovered Thorsten von Overgaard via Instagram the algorithm kept throwing up adverts for this book and various courses from the photographer. The style of the adverts, the offers and the linked webpage all lead me to think ‘…another photographer selling presets and courses’. I ignored the first few, but then something captured me and I read a little further. After learning a bit more about Thorsten himself, I thought what’s the harm in signing up for his newsletter? In return, I’d receive a free download of this book and I could always unsubscribe.
The book doesn’t teach techniques or rules. Instead, it provides a more philosophical look at photography. Yes, there are nuggets you can take and use in your own photography, but on the whole, it’s a very personal outlook. One that I much appreciated and it helped to revive my stalling interest in photography. I have a feeling I may be re-reading this little gem over again.
Especially as the way the book is written and presented makes it perfect for those little moments of downtime, I could open it up, read a page or two, close it and carry on. A great little companion on my journey with photography.
