The title is a little misleading as, to me at least, it sounds like a self-help book. What it actually delivers is a great introduction to Stoicism, showing how this ancient philosophy is still relevant today and can help guide us towards living a better life. Philosophy may not appear the most approachable subject, but Irvine delivers this insight in an easily understandable way, not only describing what is Stoicism but also, how to practice Stoicism for both tranquillity and joy in the context of a modern, unsustainable consumerist culture. I ended up at this book as it’s been referenced in other books and also by Sean Tucker on his great photography YouTube channel. It’s led to me wanting to learn more about Stoicism and practice those learnings too.
